Bug List/ 2A

1)   When the carpet guy calls me upset while he is waiting for over an hour at Lowes to pick up carpet.
Why: I order carpet at work from Lowes (days in advance) but it’s not ready when the carpet guy goes to pick it up. Lowes gets super busy and when I call to place an order, the order is put through and paid for but the carpet is never cut and prepared for pick-up.

2)   Repeating something I say 10 times to someone.
Why: The person isn’t listening and doesn’t care what I have to say or has a hearing problem.

3)   When big spiders build their webs right in front of the back sliding glass door.
Why: The light by the back door attracts moths and other bugs which is what the spider likes to snack on.

4)   Cutting an avocado in half to find a huge seed and only a little bit of avocado.
Why: I choose bad avocados because I’m too lazy to do research on what to look for when buying a perfect avocado.

5)    How long it takes for coffee in my Yeti cup to cool down to a temperature I can drink it at.
Why: The insulation in the cup is just so good that it lets very little of the heat out, and my office doesn’t have an ice maker.

6)   When the gears in my bike get stuck and never go into gear so it makes an annoying clicking sound.
Why: My bike is old and probably needs a new chain and other TLC. I’m too lazy and cheap to spend money or time on an old Huffy.

7)    Restaurant booths that are too far from the table so I have to sit forward which makes me lean on the table.
Why: The booths are probably for larger people who need extra space. The table and booths slide around while people get in and out of the booths.

8)   The way a hair tie’s fabric breaks before the band.
Why: Hair ties are made as a rubber band wrapped in cloth. When the fabric breaks, it exposes the rubber band.

9)    When clothes don’t dry the first time in the dryer.
Why: The dryer vent needs to be cleaned and we need a tall ladder to get on the roof to snake the vent.

10)    Being added to a group chat or text conversation.
Why: People who send group chats want a lot of people to get a message. They are probably too lazy to tell each person individually.

11)   When people pull into median turning lanes the wrong way and they’re blocking the view of the traffic you are trying to pull into.
Why: People don’t know traffic laws because they take one class at 16 and never revisit the information learned in Driver’s Ed. They repeat their traffic mistakes and no one corrects them.

12)   When someone calls me and says they have a missed call from me but won’t tell me their name so I can’t tell them why I called.
Why: I likely called them to use their business (we use a lot of subcontractors and different vendors) and either had the wrong number or didn’t recognize the number when they returned the call. They be must paranoid that people are out to get them.

13)   That there is always a ton of people at the gym when I go around 6:00 pm.
Why: People like to go to the gym after work and the average work day ends around 5.

14)   Sitting in the car for long periods of time.
Why: You have to drive to get just about anywhere and there is nothing exciting in Ocala. To do things, we have to leave and go to bigger cities with better things to do.

15)   When the dogs bark at people walking around in the field area behind our house
Why: My dogs have no manners and I have no time or patience to train them. People like to walk their dogs, ride four wheelers, play catch and use the empty drainage retention area as a park.

16)   That my neighbor has about 30 boats on his small quarter acre property.
Why: He obviously likes boats… Maybe he used to have some kind of business that used or fixed boats and can’t get rid of them.

17)   When people driving by have really loud bass in their car that shakes the office building.
Why: People like to listen to music that rattles their brains. They don’t have consideration for the person next to them.

18)   When my dog watches me take off my shoes because she wants to steal and run off with my socks.
Why: Since I have chased her around so much with my socks, she now thinks it’s a game and I don’t know how to break that habit with a dog. Sometimes we leave socks on the floor.

19)   Sharpening cheap colored pencils that break because the pigment inside of the wooden casing is not straight.
Why: The maker has a quality control issue and sell their pencils for cheaper and not making the quality of the product a priority over the price.

20)   Not being able to see how far away I am from a parking curb.
Why: I can’t see that low in front of my car and there is nothing around to see the reflection on.

Reflection: This assignment was pretty difficult because it made me think about things that bother me. I am so used to making special effort to avoid thinking about those things. It was also difficult to make my “bugs” not start with “When people…”. I noticed that so many things people do really bug me and I didn’t want to sound like a grumpy person that’s annoyed with everyone. Like I said, I normally go out of my way to avoid thinking about things that bug me.

  1. I could tell a lot of thought went into your bug list. Reading through it I saw many things that bug me as well but that I did not even think of for my bug list. Your bugs are very varied which impresses me because I had a very difficult time getting stuck on a single area. I also think you did a very good job with your whys. They explain the causes of your bugs very well.

  2. Hi Brittany!
I find myself getting so annoyed having to repeat myself multiple times to someone. It almost makes me feel like they are just thinking of something better they have to do than be in a conversation with me. I also find myself being frustrated very often by people blocking my view in the median. That traffic bug reminded me of another bug that I did not think of when writing my list which is people moving slow in the passing lane when people are trying to get by.
