Solving the Problem/ 8A

Vegetarian Restaurant in Ocala  To solve the problem of vegans and vegetarians in Ocala not having many menu options and there being no fully vegetarian restaurants in Ocala I would of course, open a vegetarian restaurant! In my interviews, I discovered that having healthy options is very important to vegetarians. My restaurant would serve lunch and dinner and have menu options such as bean burritos, wraps, sandwiches and even flat bread pizzas! The menu items would not come with your typical chips or fries, but customers would have the option of fresh fruit, homemade potato salad and simple side salads. Smoothies and juices would also be served all day and offered as drinks with lunch and dinner plates (with a small up-charge). Of course the drinks that come with meals would not be your typical soda machine choices, but we would have an assortment of teas, sparkling waters, and even Kombucha! The environment would be very classy and clean where customers would arrive to a tab...

Testing the Hypothesis/ 7A

Hypothesis: Vegans and Vegetarians in Ocala are given few menu options by restaurants and no fully vegetarian restaurants exist at all because the niche has not yet been explored by entrepreneurs in this area. Testing the Who: More and more people are choosing to eat a vegetarian or fully vegan diet. Whether they are concerned with the environment, animal’s rights or just want to eat healthier, there are more vegetarians than ever before. Ocala has a large group of people of all ages, races and religions who do not eat meat and more are being added to the group every day.  Testing the What : This market is very new and growing quickly. There are needs for vegetarian restaurants all over the world. Testing the Why: When vegetarian (especially vegans) go out with their friends to a restaurant in Ocala there are very few menu options that cater to their diets. Mexican, Asian and Indian restaurants are the safest place for vegetarians however they never really know for ...

Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends/ 6A

Regulatory Changes: Animal Welfare: Procedures for Applying for Licenses and Renewals https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=APHIS-2017-0062-0001 This regulation opens up opportunities for good people who really care about animals to operate legally in a cheaper and more efficient want and prevents people with bad history from working with animals. The customer who will benefit from this opportunity are the good people who genuinely care about animals. The new regulation would be easy to exploit because the regulation itself opens up opportunity for people running businesses to run legally, easier. This opportunity stuck out to me because I am one of those people who is passionate about caring for the wellbeing of animals. It disgusts me to hear about people who have history of mistreating animals working in a job that puts them around animals. I believe this will make working with animals extremely difficult for people who do not hold licenses and it will ease the jobs and cos...

Identifying Local Opportunities/ 5A

1)       Entire K-9 Unit Suspended http://www.ocalapost.com/entire-k-9-unit-suspended/ An entire K-9 unit was suspended for excessively speeding at speeds over 100 mph to and from a competition they all attended over the weekend. More than five deputies were caught tampering with their dash cameras. During the seven hour one-way trip, deputies were also seen tailgating other vehicles on the road. It can be inferred that the officers were excited about their competition and decided to have some fun on the interstate. Having all K-9 officers’ together “goofing off” lead to dangerous decisions and left the department without any remaining K-9 units. The Lakeland Police Department currently has no active K-9 officers on the street. 2)       Duke Energy customers could soon see rate hike http://www.ocalapost.com/duke-energy-customers-could-soon-see-rate-hike/            ...

Forming an Opportunity/ 4A

There should be some kind of sensor or camera to help drivers measure the distance from parking curbs to the front bumper of their vehicle. People who drive small or lowered cars have trouble seeing the distance of a parking curb. This is a simple problem that can cause big damage to the front end of a car. In most cases when a driver hits a parking curb, the bumper is forced on top of the curb and the driver immediately throws the car into reverse and badly dents the front bumper or rips it off completely. People use all kinds of guessing methods to park without hitting the curb but none are guaranteed. I asked several people, “Has it ever bothered you not being able to see how far you are from a parking curb?” and I noticed a trend with the people who answered “No” which was that they drove larger vehicles like trucks or SUV’s. The people who answered “Yes” were drivers of small or lowered cars. Such as Trevor who drives a Mustang, Darlene who drives a Jaguar, and Summer who...

Bug List/ 2A

1)   When the carpet guy calls me upset while he is waiting for over an hour at Lowes to pick up carpet. Why: I order carpet at work from Lowes (days in advance) but it’s not ready when the carpet guy goes to pick it up. Lowes gets super busy and when I call to place an order, the order is put through and paid for but the carpet is never cut and prepared for pick-up. 2)   Repeating something I say 10 times to someone. Why: The person isn’t listening and doesn’t care what I have to say or has a hearing problem.   3)   When big spiders build their webs right in front of the back sliding glass door. Why: The light by the back door attracts moths and other bugs which is what the spider likes to snack on. 4)   Cutting an avocado in half to find a huge seed and only a little bit of avocado. Why: I choose bad avocados because I’m too lazy to do research on what to look for when buying a perfect avocado.   5)     ...
