Celebrating Failure/ 26A

1) Well as my classmates already know, I like to make art. During this semester, I have been struggling to learn this "really awesome new medium" called Inktense. It is water soluble ink that is permanent when it dries however it is applied like watercolors. I have tried several times to get used to this medium and I have not yet successfully finished a project. Every time I use them, the paper buckles and the colors move around where they aren't supposed to. Its very frustrating.

2) During this, I learned that I cannot use them like other mediums because it is it's own entirely. I want to compare the pencils to colored pencils and the blocks to water colors and they just aren't the same in the least. They need to be applied in a completely different way and I am just not picking up on it very easily.

3) I am perfectly fine with failure. Yes it may be frustrating to do the same thing over and over again not being able to get it right, but if there is never failure there would also never be improvement. Failure to me is a personal thing though. If there are other factors getting in the way or people trying to sabotage you, that's a way different story. This class has definitely pushed me to take risks because what is there to lose? I recently when to listen to a guy speak (a vegan boxer of course) and he said "Fail because you set goals too big to succeed first try. Fail until failing is the objective, continue this without being discouraged and you will eventually fail at failing.... by succeeding" -Cam F. Awesome

  1. Failure is extremely frustrating. But with continuous effort i think you'll make great progress and improve your art. I take failure very personal as well and do the best I possibly can whenever I experience it. Failure is a form of adversity and overcoming is one of the biggest steps on the path to success. Without the learning aspect of failing and the mental toughness there will never be success.
